DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPERBOLE
We can have sensible land use WITHOUT shredding the Constitution.
Government owes its citizens an open door to seek relief for any concern they have. We broke away from England in part to own land and have citizen rights.
FACT:
Recently we amended the Land Use Code to allow for a citizen to petition to possibly and partially fill in flood area(s) on their own land. As an example in rural areas a landowner may need to upgrade a culvert where a creek is under his driveway. He would have to do some filling in this area to do so. This upgraded culvert would likely IMPROVE creek flow, further avoiding flooding. Again, this would be evaluated case by case. This is designed to allow a citizen to merely ask regarding his/her own land. Surely any/all citizens should have an open door to their local government regarding land they own. Any other version of our actions is purely untrue. It appears if you want LESS freedom with land you own, there is a candidate for that. But it is not me.
The plain truth is that the differences in Henderson County policies and Hendersonville City policies could not be more clear. And the fruit of those differences is very evident. So, with that in mind, watch this entire video BEFORE you vote !!!
My opponent claims to be for smart and balanced growth. However, there are at least 400 rental apartments virtually within sight of Fletcher Town Hall. They are NOT affordable, and were built by out of town/state developers. That is not smart or balanced. Every month the hundreds of thousands of dollars in rent leaves Henderson County. My opponent also claims that "we don't have to do business with every out of town developer that comes calling" but dozens of homes are being built by D.R. Horton in Fletcher Town limits. Add to that the $1.843 million the Town of Fletcher (Fletcher taxpayers) recently paid for a mere 3.5 acres of highway frontage. I wonder if it will be marketed to an out of town/state developer. And will what has been done in the small town of Fletcher, be the plan for Henderson County at large? The 14 year record on Fletcher Town Council does not match the campaign sound bites. Records matter.
Policy is everything.
It equals cause + effect. Policy is NOT platitudes, promises, or sound bites. If a candidate cannot put pencil to paper and demonstrate how a policy becomes a plan of action, how it will be accomplished, how much it will cost, and how it will be paid for, then they have a wish not a policy. Sound fiscal and public policy should drive every vote that is cast. And sound policies apply County wide. This means we must always be balancing all needs County wide, remembering that ALL citizens pay all the bills. We must also always be looking ahead to future needs, not just at the here and now. Careful, measured planning will guide us where we need to go. Sound public and fiscal policy will ensure we get there !!!
For example:
There are hundreds (plural) of rental apartments all virtually in sight of Fletcher Town Hall. And they are NOT affordable There is a better way. I was thrilled to take the lead in brining community partners together in the construction of two workforce homes. Soon two local families will call these homes, THEIR homes. Real policy in action !!!
The Fletcher community was without a 24 hour EMS presence. It was my joy to work with EMS to find a solution. We partnered with the School Board to use land we already owned, saving the tax payers hundreds of thousands if not over one million dollars. Soon the Fletcher community will be much safer with a long overdue 24 hour staffed EMS station.
The Henderson County community came together in a big way, as it always does, for the construction of the all new all-inclusive playground. With so much support from community partners, we were able to spare no expense on this state-of-the-art recreation gem. There is something for EVERYONE including adults. I was happy to see that no feature was left out. Go check it out.
I was thrilled to support partnering with a great local agency to help keep Henderson County foster siblings together! We also chartered a course for more helpful transitioning out of foster care for older teens. I also secured Henderson County being removed as the subordinate creditor, and made the sole financial partner, meeting critical needs while protecting the taxpayers' interests.
